BREWSTER PENINSULA TRAILS

The Brewster Peninsula Trails in Lake Placid are a network of well used trails that total around 4 miles. This network is made up of 4 main trails, Boundary, Lakeshore, Ridge, Jackrabbit and a truck trail. It is a very compact arrangement of extremely well marked trails.

Access is available trough 2 different locations.  The Howard Johnson’s Restaurant parking lot, marked “1″ on the map.  Go to the back left hand corner of the parking lot to pick up the Jackrabbit Trail marked with red large rectangular markers labeled “Jackrabbit Trail”.  Note on my map this trail is marked in green.  The other trailhead is located on Peninsula Way which is found between Howard Johnson’s Restaurant and The Comfort Inn. Head down the road about .5 miles a parking area at a barrier gate marked “2″ on my map. The trail you start on is a truck road (unmarked/white on my map).

Head down this trail for approx. .25 miles to a 4-way junction. To the left is the Boundary Trail (red markers/red on my map), straight is the continuation of the truck road, and to the right is the Boundary Trail (red markers/red on my map).  Heading left on the Boundary Trail a short downhill brings you to a 4-way junction left is the Jackrabbit Trail heading (rolling with some roots/rocks) to the HoJo’s parking lot. Right is more Jackrabbit Trail heading (flat/not very rough) to the lake. Straight is more Boundary Trail (smooth) to the lake, a short distance down this trail the Jackrabbit Trail comes in from the right and it continues across the bridge at a small dam. Continuing straight on the Boundary Trail along the lakeshore (lots of roots/rocks) you hit a 3-way intersection shortly. To the right is more Boundary trail (steep with roots/rocks) that returns you to the original truck trail.

Straight continuing along the shore is the Lakeshore trail (blue markers/blue on my map). This is a rugged trail that twists and turns with MANY roots/rocks but fairly flat. Eventually the trail ends at a 3-way intersection. straight is the truck trail which returns to the start of the trail network.

To the left is the Ridge Trail ( yellow marker/yellow on my map), this is a fun trail with rolling hills, lots of roots and soft footing.  This is the longest trail of the Brewster Peninsula Trails network.  Eventually you hit a 3-way intersection.  To the right is more Ridge, trail down hill to a clearing and the truck trail. Left is a unmarked trail that also brings you to the truck trail. A left hand turn brings you back to the barrier gate on Peninsula Way.

This is a very popular area for families, walkers, mountain bikers and other runners. So share the trails and enjoy.
